Southwark Labour Party had their third annual borough conference on Saturday (12/09/2009). The packed day featured policy discussion groups and speeches by Ed Milliband, Harriet Harman, Lambeth leader Steve Reed and Val Shawcross. Southwark Labour has held a conference each year since the last local elections in 2006 to discuss local policies and issues.
This year local members discussed fighting climate change with Ed Milliband, the Environment Secretary, as well as how to increase walking and cycling locally, fighting the local effects of recession, the future of Southwark social care and pre-school education in the borough.
Southwark Labour’s Leader Cllr Peter John said:
“Every year the borough conference reminds me that Labour is still a mass party in Southwark, with local Labour Party members coming from all walks of life in the borough and linked into every community."
